The history of life on Earth began about 625 millions years ago, initially with single-celled prokaryotic cells, such as bacteria. Multicellular life evolved some years later and  only in the last 570 millions years that the kinds of life forms we are familiar with began to evolve, starting with arthropods. Then 200 millions years ago dinosaurs and mammals arrived  while our own species, Homo sapiens, only 200,000 years ago.
